I was waiting to pay for a blowdry the other day while the woman in front of me was booking her next haircut.
“That takes us to the seventh of June,” the hairdresser told her.
We all exchanged looks of shock and then began to laugh.
“We really just need to get used to time going fast these days, don’t we?” she remarked, with a depth of wisdom far beyond simply popping that client’s next appointment into her calendar.
Uhh, yep.
So much has happened in the time since we last spoke here. Of course. So I want to bring you some of the highlights and turning points of April 2024 for me.
After my contributing chapter was published in Unity last November, my thoughts then turned to writing my own book. The swirling question of ‘what should I write about?’ remained unanswered until one day recently when my very logical husband said exactly what the book should be about with such matter-of-fact certainty it shocked me into silence… and then whole-hearted agreement. From there, we sat down together and mapped out a loose outline of twelve chapters.
And then… nothing.
Well, that’s not entirely true. I created a Trello board for the book and each of its chapters so that I would have a central hub to capture notes, ideas, research and inspiration.
But then… nothing.
I hadn’t written a single word (or even created a new Google Doc) when a phone call that I had been trying to line up since the end of February finally took place in mid-April. It was with the publisher of Unity. We chatted casually at first, bringing each other up to speed with our lives, and then I danced around the book’s concept until she pulled it out of me.
“What’s the book about?” she asked.
I told her. She loved it. And then she gave me some golden advice to weave into it to make the story my own. She closed out the call with a very loving yet firm kick up the butt that I very much needed: “Write. Just write the book. Even if it’s for 10 minutes a day, a few days a week. Write for yourself. Write without worrying about having to publish anything. Write for a month and see what you have.”
After that call, the words poured out of me for the introduction as well as some extra ideas for the following chapters.
So… the book has begun.
About two weeks after this call, I had another call with another brilliant woman in the literary world — best-selling author, Amber Rae.
Sitting in front of someone who has achieved what I’d love to and who didn’t know me at all was one of the most refreshing, validating and clarifying experiences I’ve had in a really long time.
I told her the story of me, my lifelong love of writing, and the path my career has taken. I told her about my book, my struggles and blocks, and my dreams and goals.
And then, with the purity that only someone with no prior knowledge or preconceived ideas of you can give, Amber reflected back to me with such clarity my strengths, my unique point of difference, and even what I should be posting on Instagram. Of course, as soon as we got off Zoom, I immediately updated my Instagram bio — because that’s where all great changes begin, right?!
Following our call, I signed up to ‘On The Page’, Amber’s 30-day writing sprint, and I am devoting myself to showing up for the calls, utilising the writing prompts and exercises, and committing myself to writing this book that is begging me to bring it to life.
On a completely different note…
Curating soundtracks on Spotify is a creative pastime and love language for me, and my latest playlist is called LUSH.
From the lazy hum of early morning to the golden glow of dusk, these are moments and whispers of leisure and reflection.
I hope you enjoy it and look forward to bringing you plenty more!
Now for something cool…
My darling friend Jodi hosts Full Moon circles for the women in our local area and the most recent one in April was exceptionally powerful.
As we sat on the clifftop, she led us in an exquisite meditation that connected us to the earth below, the sky above, and our power within. And as she spoke and we breathed, my intention for what I was ready to release dropped in like a lightning bolt.
“I release the need to be anything other than myself.”
We watched the moon rise over the ocean and placed our pieces of paper into a cauldron (it was actually a pot with a lid, but hey, ‘cauldron’ sounds way better!) and set fire to everything we were ready to let go of.
It was beautiful and empowering and freeing.
Nothing like a little bit of magic on a Wednesday evening!
And last but certainly not least…
I am thrilled to share my first live group experience in nearly a year!
It’s called: INNER CREATOR — a powerful manifestation journal practice to help you achieve your next goal in 30 days.
I created this journal practice at a time when I was feeling incredibly stuck, frustrated and confused; outsourcing all of my power and leadership to the wrong people. It helped me reclaim my force and might, and showed me how wildly capable I was. It changed my life for the better and I am so excited to teach it to you and to embark on this exquisite and enthralling journey with you.
The experience includes two group Zoom calls (at the beginning and end), my signature Inner Creator journal practice that you can use for life, and is AUD 55.
We begin this Wednesday 8 May.
You can sign up (or gift a spot to someone else) via this link.
Alright my love, that just about brings you up to speed with what’s been happening in my world lately.
I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse backstage and I look forward to connecting with you again soon.
Much love. x
“I release the need to be anything other than myself.” I feel this deeply 💜
Ah I’m so excited that you’re writing a book!! ❤️
